Leverage

Using borrowing or derivatives to increase exposure.

Leverage magnifies gains and losses. Professionals usually apply it to relatively stable strategies, not as a shortcut to make an already risky bet even riskier.

Example: A 2x leveraged portfolio with $100,000 of capital controls about $200,000 of exposure.
