Slippage

The gap between the price you hoped to trade at and the price you actually get.

Slippage includes spread costs, market impact, and execution delays. It is one reason a backtest can look better than live trading.

Example: If a model expects to buy at $100 but the fill happens at $100.20, the 20 cents is slippage.
